The Bar Stewards is a new micropub and bottle shop due to open next year, in the meantime a number of temporary ‘preview’ openings are taking place on a temporary licence with the venue as a work in progress.
The first of these advertised was the last weekend in October with the pub being spartan but functional with three cask ales – from Blue Bee, Neepsend and Hopjacker – served on gravity direct from the cask behind the bar and a fridge full of cans and bottles.
The Bar Stewards can be found on Gibralter Street, across the road from Shakespeare’s pub in one of the new shop units – the whole building has been renovated.
Once the venue is up and running full time there will be a number of handpumps dispensing cask beers from a proper cellar along with a number of craft keg beers, quality spirits and cider.
