Coronavirus, CAMRA and pubs * NOTE CAMRA branch events and festivals are cancelled until further notice *

At the time of publication, the government has advised against any unnecessary close social interaction including going to pubs as a precaution against the Corona Virus outbreak – although there has been no instruction for pubs to close. They have also announced a package of support for struggling businesses, which will be desperately needed by many pubs!
Some pubs do appear to be adapting by promoting off sales and even offering home delivery of food and drink! As an individual you can continue to support your favourite beer outlets by still spending money with them – even if that is for beer consumed at home. As a CAMRA branch we can  support pubs by sharing their announcements of such initiatives on our social media and putting news stories on our website where appropriate and we have already started doing this. A number of other local beer fans with websites, blogs and social media accounts are doing similar, including putting together lists of outlets doing delivery or takeout.
As a result of government health and safety advice, and the emergency services not supporting events that are classed as ‘mass gatherings’, CAMRA events are cancelled until further notice. Please keep an eye on our website and social media for updates. Planning for our October beer festival continues, this will be by email rather than face to face meetings.
The April issue of Beer Matters will be published online as a PDF but not in print, going forward we will publish articles online but not in a magazine until we once again feel it is worth distributing to pubs and have advertisers that can afford to financially support the magazine production. Keep sending in your news, articles and other contributions.
Our upcoming committee meeting will be replaced with a conference call and we will update regards rescheduling the AGM, announcing Pub of the Year winners and everything else in due course.
We’re sorry we aren’t hosting meetings or socials for members at the moment but we cannot risk being responsible for putting anyone in danger, we can all still get involved with campaigning online and choose to support pubs and breweries as individuals. See you for a pint on the other side of all this!
