DETAILS OF OUR BRANCH SOCIAL – SATURDAY 20 JULY 2024
The Peak Sightseer open top bus service runs every hour between Chatsworth and Castleton throughout the daytime with many pubs along the route to stop off at! We’ll start by doing a ride the full length of the route to enjoy the scenery then work our way back via a number of pubs (options in Castleton, Hope, Bamford, Hathersage, Grindleford and Calver).
The itinerary: Open top bus picks up at Woodseats library 09:44, Millhouses Wagon & Horses 09:58 and Totley Main Avenue end 10:08 for Chatsworth, arrive 10:38. Connecting bus to Woodseats: service 25 from Arundel Gate at 09:03. We then ride the 11:00 departure from Chatsworth all the way to Castleton before begining our pub tour. At the end of our day an open top bus will return to Woodseats.
The open top bus tour ticket costs £9.50 for adults or £25 for a group of 5 people offering all day unlimited hop-on-hop-off travel on the sightseer service plus all local Stagecoach buses in our area. Tickets (Gold DayRider) available to buy from the bus driver or on the Stagecoach app.
Note – if you don’t want to start so early there are some alternative buses from Sheffield (£2 fare payable as they aren’t Stagecoach buses) – TM Travel bus 218 dep Sheffield Interchange at 10:10 to Baslow to pick the open topper up or First bus 272 from Sheffield Interchange at 10:36 to Longshaw (stop after Fox House) to pick the open topper up.
THE PUB PLAN: (subject to variation on the day if felt appropriate!)
- Castleton arr 12:33 – Peak Hotel and SwissTap (many others also available if you prefer). Depart Castleton bus station 13:38
- Hope arr 13:43 – Old Hall Hotel and Woodroffe Arms (or you may prefer to walk to the Cheshire Cheese Inn). Depart Hope Post Office 14:43
- Bamford arr 14:54 – a 15 minute walk from the rail station turning circle up into the village for the Anglers Rest (if you aren’t up for the brisk walk you may prefer to stay on to Hathersage and visit the Little John Hotel or to Grindleford for the Sir William Hotel). Depart Bamford station 15:54.
- Calver arr 16:20 – Eyre Arms (or if you prefer you could visit the Bridge Inn). Depart Calver Sough 17:16.
- Hathersage arr 17:33 – actually we’re alighting in the hills high above the village at the Millstone. Depart the Millstone 18:02
This final bus returns us towards Sheffield and drops off at a choice of Ecclesall, Carterknowle, Woodseats or Meadowhead. If you require Sheffield City Centre you can get bus 88 from Ecclesall.
