Tap & Tankard closes

The Tap & Tankard on Cambridge Street closed its doors for the final time on Saturday 3 February.

The Kelham Island Brewery-owned pub, which opened in December 2014 on the site formerly occupied by the Sportsman rock bar, is being closed as part of the ongoing renovation works in Sheffield’s retail quarter. Following the closure of Henry’s Cafe Bar in late 2016, Cambridge Street now has two remaining venues serving real ale, the Benjamin Huntsman and Yates’s.

  1. Hi there just to clarify that the T n T has not closed due to the potential redevelopment of Cambridge Street, Ed Wickett closed the pub due to it not being as profitable as he would wish; although the pub was actually in profit. As a regular and now sad ex customer I’m very much in the hope that another local brewery, such as Stancil, could take on the pub and basically manage it better. As far as I’m aware the lease is available for at least 3 years while discussions are ongoing regarding phase 2 of the ‘retail quarter’ development. Hoping for a brighter future for the ex-Sportsman/T n T! Paul Sellers.
