Here are the details of our branch meetings, socials and other activities for members coming up over the next month or two.

May Pub of the Month

8pm Tue 12 May

We present the award to No.3 in Sharrow, this month’s worthy winner.

Cider Pub of the Year

8pm Wed 13 May

We present the award to the Old Shoe in Sheffield City Centre, which offers a range of high quality ciders on tap and in bottle. This will also feature the launch of a cider made on the premises!

RambAle – Bakewell, Stanton Moor & Darley Bridge

12:50pm Sat 16 May

Our RambAles are gently paced country walks that start and end at a pub that serves real ale. This month we start at the Flying Childers at Stanton In Peak and walk over Stanton Moor via the Nine Ladies stone circle to Birchover for the Red Lion (home of Birchover brewery) then on to Darley Bridge via Clough Lane for the Three Stags Head and Square & Compass. Getting there: bus 218 from Sheffield to Bakewell departing 10:40, changing onto bus 172 at 12:20 for Stanton in Peak. Getting back: Bus from the A6 at 17:30 back to Bakewell, changing there onto the 218 bus to Sheffield. Suggested ticket: Derbyshire Wayfarer all day bus pass costing £9.

We continue work planning our 50th Steel City Beer & Cider Festival. The meeting is held upstairs at the Gardeners Rest. Get there on bus 7/8 which stop outside the pub, alternatively it is a 5-10 minute walk from Infirmary Road tram stop.

East Sheffield Pub of the Year

8pm Thu 21 May

We present the award to the Chantry Inn at Handsworth – and have a beer or two of course! Buses 30/30a, 52/52a, 70/70a, 73, 95 and X5 go there.

12pm Sat 23 May

Hope Valley: We head to the Old Hall Hotel in Hope for their regular bank holiday weekend beer festival along with a number of other venues in the valley. We start by taking the train to Edale (departs Sheffield 12:14) for a visit to the Rambler Inn before heading to the Old Hall’s beer festival. There is also the option of stopping off in Hathersage on the way back.  An off peak day return from Sheffield to Edale costs £11.50 or a Derbyshire Wayfarer all day bus & train pass costs £17.

Annual Beer Census

12pm Sat 30 May

We survey as many pubs in Sheffield as possible to record the cask beer range. You can do that by joining one of our social survey crawls or by simply visiting a pub and recording the beers on our app. More details soon.

The 257 bus: This service runs hourly from Sheffield to Eyam taking in Yorkshire Bridge, Bamford, Grindleford, Calver and Stoney Middleton. We’ll be using it to visit a few country pubs along the route! Bus departs Sheffield Interchange at 12:00. A Derbyshire Wayfarer all day bus pass costs £9, buy from the bus driver or on the Travelmaster app.

RambAle – trails around Killamarsh

12:20pm Sat 27 Jun

Our RambAles are gently paced country walks that start and end at a pub that serves real ale. This month sees us head out to the edge of our branch area, starting at the West End Hotel in Killamarsh and walking via parts of the Transpennine Trail (former Great Central Railway) and Cuckoo Way (disused part of Chesterfield canal) to Fuggle Bunny Brewhouse, with a stop at the Guzzle micropub on the way. Get there on bus 120k to Rowan Tree Road, the walk leader will be boarding this bus at Crystal Peaks bus station at 12:03 (from Sheffield City Centre it departs the Interchange at 11:26). Return travel can be by tram or bus 120 from Halfway terminus.

Pub of the Year

We present the award for Kelham Island & Neepsend along with the overall winners certificate at the Kelham Island Tavern.

RambAle – Chesterfield Canal to Shireoaks

1pm Sat 18 Jul

This month the walk crosses the county boundary from South Yorkshire into North Nottinghamshire, beginning at the Parish Oven in the village of Thorpe Salvin and ending at Ticking Clock Brewery’s tap room in Shireoaks with a couple of refreshment stops along the way at Orchard Teas (for hot drinks) and the Lock Keeper (for beer). Get to Thorpe Salvin on bus 26 (departs Crystal Peaks bus station 12:30, connecting bus 120 from Sheffield Interchange at 11:30 or blue route tram from Cathedral at 11:45). We return to Sheffield by train.

Social – Torrside brewery & New Mills pubs

11am Sat 25 Jul

We take the 11:14 train to New Mills Central for Torrside brewery’s monthly tap weekend followed by a couple of pubs in the town before heading back to Sheffield. The tap event sees a bar in the brewery showcasing a range of their beers on cask, keg and in bottle plus there is usually a street food trader outside. Trains run back to Sheffield via the Hope Valley on an hourly frequency so return times are flexible.

The 65 bus: This bus runs from Sheffield to Buxton via Grindleford, Stoney Middleton, Foolow, Tideswell and Millers Dale. We’ll be using it to visit a few of the country pubs along the route. Bus departs Sheffield Interchange at 11:35. A Derbyshire Wayfarer all day bus pass costs £9, buy from the bus driver or on the Travelmaster app.

With Autumn arriving we are back in the City of Sheffield for our pub tour socials and this month we’ll be taking a wander around Crookes and Walkley, starting in the Old Grindstone. Bus 52/52a goes there.

LocAle tasting panel

8pm Tue 29 Sep

A fifth Tuesday of the month means it’s time to convene to taste beers from a local brewery and make notes for CAMRA’s online system which may feed into the Good Beer Guide! Venue/beers TBD.

A gentle evening out as it is the week before our beer festival! We head up to Fuggle Bunny’s regular Friday evening tap opening, it is a short walk from Halfway tram & bus terminus (Blue route tram or 120 bus).

Steel City Beer & Cider Festival

21 October 2026 to 24 October 2026

At Kelham Island Museum. Volunteer staff also needed on site to help set up from Sunday 18 October and take down on Sunday 25 October. The festival features a huge range of beers plus cider & perry, street food, entertainment and more.
